While the business and finance sectors are expected to see record hiring levels this year, accountancy positions could be difficult to fill, a study has shown.
The survey by recruitment company Manpower found that 27 per cent of firms plan to hire more workers over the next three months compared with six per cent which said they were thinking of cutting back on staff.
Mark Cahill, managing director of Manpower UK, described the results as showing hiring within the sectors to be strong but said that employers would be challenged with finding "quality" staff.
"Additional Manpower research shows that accounting and finance staff are among the most difficult positions to fill in the UK and the number of vacancies is also increasing," he added.
Alan Blinder, Princeton University economics professor, recently suggested that most accountancy positions would be based in India in the future as a result of globalisation.
