Professional services firm Deloitte is not convinced that reforming the way degrees are classified in the UK will offer any sizable advantages to graduate recruiters around the country.
A report from the Burgess Group has made the case for the introduction of a system that would be give graduates a higher education achievement reports (Hear), but Deloitte's experts have indicated that for the most part the current arrangements work perfectly well.
However, the company, which is among Britain's largest graduate recruiters, notes that under certain circumstances methods for distinguishing particular people could prove useful.
"Whilst we are not in favour of the removal of the degree classification system, the Hear may be useful when assessing students who narrowly miss out on achieving a higher degree.
"The detailed information universities plan to include in the Hear will help us to reassess these candidates with a view to making a job offer."
Deloitte was first established by a London-based accountant who gave the company its name and the business now employs in excess of 150,000 people around the world.
